Cauvery verdict: Vivasayigal Sangam expresses satisfaction
  • The Desiya Thenindia Nadigal Inaippu Vivasayigal Sangam president P. Ayyakannu has expressed satisfaction over the Supreme Court directive to form the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) .Ayyakannu said “It is also a matter of satisfaction that the SC has observed that no state can claim right over the Cauvery.”

OPS joins issue with Union Minister
  • Deputy Chief Minister and the ruling AIADMK’s coordinator O. Panneerselvam on Thursday took on Union Minister of State for Finance and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan for his observation that the State has turned into a hotbed of extremism
LPG tankers strike to continue
  • The Southern Region Bulk LPG Transport Owners’ Association has decided to continue with its indefinite strike to press its demands.
  • To protest against the new rules, the association launched an indefinite strike from February 12 following which about 4,500 tankers are off the roads in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telengana and also in the Union Territory of Puducherry.

Kerala :

Normal life affected by private bus stir
  • Normal life was affected in several districts on Friday owing to an indefinite strike by 14,500-odd private buses to press their demands, including a further increase in the minimum bus fare to ₹10 and a proportionate increase in the concessional bus fares of students.14,500 private buses keep off the road seeking fare hike .
Sudhakaran plans to go on 48-hour fast
  • Congress leader and former Minister K. Sudhakaran will start a 48-hour fast in front of the Collectorate here on February 19 demanding the arrest of the assailants of Youth Congress functionary Shuhaib Edayannur and those allegedly involved in the conspiracy behind the murder.
8,820 title deeds to be issued in Idukki
  • District Collector G.R. Gokul said  that 10,842 title deeds, including nearly 2,000 that could not be issued in the last mela due to lack of application forms, would be issued.
  • Mr. Gokul said about 1,000 title deeds in the Ten Chain area of the Idukki dam and the abandoned hydroelectric project area will also be issued

‘India a living museum of co-existence’
  • President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani on Thursday made a strong pitch for Shia-Sunni unity and said Islam rejects extremism. He described India a ‘living museum’ of faiths co-existing.
  • “My message from the people of the Islamic Republic of Iran and as President to all the people of India is that of brotherhood, fraternity and friendship. We are seeking more cordial and closer relations between the two countries in areas of mutual interest,” he said.
More villages join protest against Kondapochamma reservoir
  • Protests continue to strengthen in Bahilampur village against the Kondapochamma reservoir in Mulugu mandal, with residents of Mamidyala village joining the agitation and stalling the ongoing work.Want promises to be fulfilled before vacating the villages .

Karnataka :

State Budget 2018-19: Boon for minorities, backward classes, Dalits
  • The budget’s total receipts are estimated at ₹2,02,297 crore in 2018-19. The fiscal deficit is expected to be ₹35,127 crore, which is 2.49% of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP).
  • Total liabilities are at ₹2,86,790 crore at the end of 2018-19, 20.36% of the GSDP. “This is within the limit of 25% for 2018-19 mandated in the Karnataka Fiscal Responsibility Act.
Buses to Tamil Nadu only after 'assessing situation': KSRTC
  • The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will assess the situation following the final Cauvery verdict and operate buses to Tamil Nadu. As of now, the road transport corporation has stopped bus services to Coimbatore and Ooty sector from Mysuru and Chamarajanagar divisions.

Solar alliance biggest achievement since Paris accord: Modi
  • The biggest development on tackling climate change since the Paris Accord of 2015 has been the International Solar Alliance, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the inaugural session of the World Sustainable Development Summit. “India and France initiated the International Solar Alliance.
  • It already has 121 members [countries] and is perhaps the single most important global achievement since the Paris Agreement of 2015,  he told a crowd of students, ministers and delegates from 40 countries.
Delhi HC to hear JNU’s contempt plea against students
  • The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU)  moved the Delhi High Court claiming that its order asking students not to protest within 100 metres of the administrative block was being violated .
  • JNU claimed that the ongoing protests in the university campus were in violation of the high court’s August 9, 2017 direction to students.
India believes in growth but committed to environment, says Modi
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi  said India believes in growth but was committed to protecting the environment.
  • Modi also raised concerns about the issue of water availability and asserted his commitment to ensure that no farm goes without water.

Pakistan to deploy troops in Saudi Arabia
  • Pakistan Army announced the decision to send troops on a “training and advise mission” to Saudi Arabia after a meeting between Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Saudi ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf Saeed Al-Maliki at the army headquarters in Rawalpindi on Thursday.
Appeals court declares Trump travel ban unconstitutional

Joint action by Indian bourses disruptive, harmful, says MSCI
  • MSCI Inc, a global leading provider of research-based indexes and analytics, wants Indian exchanges to reconsider their decision of not sharing market feed with foreign exchanges as it feels the move is disruptive and harmful for international investors.
  • On February 9, the three Indian bourses issued a joint statement saying that they would not share market data feed with any foreign bourse.
