India and World Bank Signed $200 Million Loan Agreement for Assam

The Government of India and the World Bank signed a $200 million Loan Agreement for the Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project. The Project will support Assam to facilitate agri-business investments, increase agricultural productivity and market access.

The Project will be implemented in over 16 Districts of Assam. Over 500,000 farming households will directly benefit from the Project.

Madras HC Bans Photos of Living Persons on Banners in Tamil Nadu

The Madras high court has banned the use of pictures of living persons on banners and hoardings in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu’s top officials were asked to maintain a clean environment and also ensure that there were “no unnecessary drawings” on buildings and residential places. The order states that pictures of the chief minister, ministers or politicians cannot be used in posters or hoardings. It has also banned the use of photos of people sponsoring the pictures.

Indian pacer Ashish Nehra has confirmed his retirement from International Cricket. He will play his last match against New Zealand on November 1, 2017.

Axis Bank Appoints Sangram Singh as Freecharge CEO

i. Axis Bank Ltd has recently completed the acquisition of mobile wallet firm Freecharge and appointed Sangram Singh as its CEO. He has replaced Jason Kothari.

ii. Freecharge presently has a revenue of about Rs80 crore. Snapdeal had bought Freecharge in April 2015 for an estimated $400 million or over Rs2,500 crore at current rates.

V M Kwatra Appointed Ambassador to Principality of Monaco

i. Shri Vinay Mohan Kwatra has been concurrently accredited as the next Ambassador of India to the Principality of Monaco, with residence in Paris.

ii. Mr Kwatra is presently Ambassador of India to France.

VAJRA faculty scheme – 260 applicants for government’s visiting researcher programme

Central Government has received 260 applications from foreign scientists for Visiting Advanced Joint Research (VAJRA) Faculty scheme. Out of these 260 applications, 70 will be shortlisted for this year.

GIFT City's IFSC Bags 10th Place in Global Financial Centres Index

Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City)'s International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) has bagged the 10th spot in the latest edition of Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI), London.

GIFT IFSC is ranked tenth, ahead of Luxembourg, Seoul, Abu Dhabi, Toronto and Beijing in the list of the GFCI report, which has 15 centres that are likely to become more significant in the next few years. Including GIFT City's IFSC, six of the top ten emerging centres are in Asia.
