This smallest paper denomination note from India has traveled through a glorious historical journey all over the world since it was issued for the public. As the argument over the government's decision to scrap high-value currency notes is still raging, our one rupee note has completed a century! The first one rupee note was printed in India on November 30, 1917, with the photo of King George V. This was the time when India was under the British rule.

Hyderabad Metro Rail Opens to Public

The Hyderabad Metro Rail opened for public with the passengers describing their first-time travel by it as a “convenient, comfortable and awesome experience“. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the first phase of the elevated Hyderabad Metro Rail project at the Miyapur station.

The metro rail commenced its operations between Miyapur and Nagole, having a total distance of 30 kms and 24 stations, the concessionaire, L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd.

7th world military games to be held at Wuhan in China

The 7th international military games will be held in Wuhan city in the central China's Hubei Province. The International Military Sports Council (CISM)’s Military World Games is a top sport event for military personnel.

It comprises 329 competitions in 27 categories and is expected to attract around 8,000 participants from more than 100 countries and regions.

India to Help Mauritius on Digital Locker

According to Ajay Kumar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of electronics and IT, the government of India will assist Mauritius to develop and set up digital locker services, on the sidelines of Global Conference on Cyber Space 2017.

The government will offer technical support and advisory services to Mauritius. DigiLocker is a key initiative of the Indian government under its flagship Digital India program. The service is aimed at paperless governance.

42nd International Congress of Military Medicine Begins

The 42nd World Congress of the International Committee of Military Medicine (ICMM) organised by the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) under the aegis of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) began in New Delhi.

Moody's Upgrades India's Sovereign Rating for First Time in 14 Years

International rating agency Moody's Investors Service has upgraded India's local and foreign currency issuer ratings to Baa2 from Baa3 and changed the outlook on the rating to stable from positive.

Moody’s has revised the sovereign rating of India a notch above investment grade after a long gap of 14 years. Moody's has also upgraded India's local currency senior unsecured rating to Baa2 from Baa3 and its short-term local currency rating to P-2 from P-3.

M.C. Mary Kom (48kg) notched up her fifth gold medal at the Asian Women’s Boxing Championships in Vietnam. She has defeated North Korea’s Kim Hyang Mi.

This is Mary Kom’s first international gold medal since the 2014 Asian Games. Mary Kom’s last medal came in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon.

Odisha Signs MoU with Singapore-Based Education Services for Skill Development

Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA) and Singapore-based ITE Education Services (ITEES) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for skill development in the State.

ITEES is a subsidiary of Singapore’s prestigious Institute of Technical Education (ITE). 100 ITI teachers will be trained at Singapore at the ITE in 2018 as per the provision of the MoU.
